Abstract
An electrode structure and its method of manufacture are disclosed. The disclosed electrode structures may be manufactured by depositing a first release layer on a first carrier substrate. A first protective layer may be deposited on a surface of the first release layer and a first electroactive material layer may then be deposited on the first protective layer.
Claims20
An electrochemical system, comprising:
- a first electrode structure comprising:
- a first release layer comprising one or more of the following materials:
- polysulfones, polyethersulfone, polyphenylsulfone, polyethersulfone-polyalkylene oxide copolymers, polyphenylsulfone-polyalkyleneoxide copolymers, polyisobutylene, polyisobutylene succinic anhydride, polyisobutylene-polyalkyleneoxide copolymers, polyamide 6, polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyvinylpyrrolidone-polyvinylimidazole copolymers, polyvinylpyrrolidone-polyvinylactetate copolymers, maleinimide-vinylether copolymers, polyacrylamides, fluorinated polyacrylates, polyethylene-polyvinylalcohol copolymers, polyethylene-polyvinylacetate copolymers, polyvinylalcohol and polyvinylacetate copolymers, polyoxymethylene, polyvinylbutyral, polyureas, polymers based on photodepolymerization of acrolein derivatives (CH2═CR—C(O)R), polysulfone-polyalkylene oxide copolymers, polyvinylidene difluoride, and combinations thereof;
- a first protective layer disposed on the first release layer;
- and
- a first electroactive material layer disposed on the first protective layer;
- and
- an electrolyte, wherein the first release layer is a polymeric release layer, wherein the first release layer is soluble in the electrolyte, wherein the electrochemical system is configured such that assembly thereof into an electrochemical cell causes the electrolyte to contact the first release layer, and wherein the contact between the electrolyte and the first release layer causes the release layer to be dissolved in the electrolyte and thereby removed from the electrode structure.

An electrochemical system, comprising:
- an electrode structure, comprising:
- a first release layer, comprising one or more of the following materials:
- polyimide with a hexafluoropropylene coating;
- siliconized polyester films, metallized polyester films, polybenzimidazoles, polybenzoxazoles, ethylene-acrylic acid copolymers, acrylate based polymers, polyvinylpyrrolidone-polyvinylimidazole copolymers, polyacrylonitriles, styrene-acrylonitriles, thermoplastic polyurethane polymers, polysulfone-polyalkylene oxide copolymers, benzophenone-modified polysulfone polymers, polyvinylpyrrolidone-polyvinylactetate copolymers, and combinations thereof;
- a first protective layer disposed on the first release layer;
- and
- a first electroactive material layer disposed on the first protective layer;
- and
- an electrolyte, wherein the first release layer is a polymeric release layer, wherein the first release layer is soluble in the electrolyte, wherein the electrochemical system is configured such that assembly thereof into an electrochemical cell causes the electrolyte to contact the first release layer, and wherein the contact between the electrolyte and the first release layer causes the release layer to be dissolved in the electrolyte and thereby removed from the electrode structure.
