Abstract
The disclosed apparatus, systems and methods relate to a framelet-based iterative algorithm for polychromatic CT which can reconstruct two components using a single scan. The algorithm can have various steps including a scaled-gradient descent step of constant or variant step sizes; a non-negativity step; a soft thresholding step; and a color reconstruction step.

A system for reconstructing a polychromatic CT image from a single scan using energy-dependent attenuation coefficients, comprising:
- a. a processor;
- b. a non-transitory, computer-readable media storing a single CT scan;
- wherein the processor is configured to reconstruct a CT image by executing a computer program configured for implementing a framelet-based iterative algorithm on the single CT scan, the framelet-based iterative algorithm comprising:
- i. a scaled-gradient descent step;
- ii. a non-negativity step;
- and
- iii. a soft thresholding step.
A single scan polychromatic CT image reconstruction system, comprising:
- a. a non-transitory, computer-readable media storing a single CT scan;
- and
- b. a processor configured to:
- i. implement a framelet-based iterative algorithm for CT image reconstruction from the single CT scan, the iterative algorithm comprising:
- a scaled-gradient descent step of constant or variant step sizes;
- a non-negativity step;
- and
- a soft thresholding step;
- and
- ii. a color reconstruction step,
- wherein the processor is configured to reconstruct the CT image following the execution of the iterative steps and color reconstruction step.
A system for reconstructing a polychromatic CT image from a single CT scan using energy-dependent attenuation coefficients, comprising:
- a. at least one x-ray tube;
- b. at least one detector configured to receive x-rays from the at least one x-ray tube;
- c. the single CT scan generated by the at least one detector;
- and
- d. an analysis unit operably coupled to the at least one detector, the analysis unit comprising a computer program configured for implementing a framelet-based iterative algorithm for CT image reconstruction from the single CT scan, the iterative algorithm comprising:
- i. a non-negativity step such that negative components are set to zero to force attenuation coefficient positivity;
- ii. a soft thresholding step on framelet coefficients to impose image framelet domain sparsity;
- and
- iii. a scaled-gradient descent step to decrease l2-norm error.
