Abstract
A storage compartment includes a housing, a lid, a locking mechanism, and a closure mechanism. The lid is pivotally coupled to the housing about a pivot axis for movement between a closed position and an opened position. The locking mechanism is displaceable in a first direction to move between an unlocked position and a locked position, the first direction extending generally normal to the pivot axis. The closure mechanism is configured to inhibit movement of the lid from the closed position towards the opened position upon movement of the locking mechanism to the unlocked position due to movement of the housing in the first direction with respect to the lid.
Claims20
A storage compartment comprising:
- a housing defining a storage area;
- a lid pivotally coupled to the housing about a pivot axis for movement between a closed position and an opened position;
- a locking mechanism displaceable in a first direction for movement between an unlocked position and a locked position, the first direction extending generally normal to the pivot axis;
- and
- a closure mechanism configured to inhibit movement of the lid from the closed position towards the opened position upon movement of the locking mechanism to the unlocked position due to movement of the housing in the first direction with respect to the lid,
- wherein in the locked position movement of the lid from the closed position to the open position is inhibited and in the unlocked positon movement of the lid from the closed position to the open position is permitted, and
- wherein in the open position access to the storage area is permitted and in the closed position access to the storage area is inhibited.
A console assembly for a vehicle, the console assembly comprising:
- a housing defining a storage area;
- a lid pivotally coupled to the housing about a pivot axis for movement between a closed position and an opened position;
- a locking mechanism displaceable in a vehicle longitudinal direction to move between an unlocked position and a locked position, the vehicle longitudinal direction extending generally normal to the pivot axis;
- and
- a closure mechanism configured to inhibit movement of the lid from the closed position towards the opened position upon movement of the locking mechanism to the unlocked position due to movement of the housing in a first direction with respect to the lid, the first direction extending parallel with the vehicle longitudinal direction,
- wherein in the locked position movement of the lid from the closed position to the open position is inhibited and in the unlocked positon movement of the lid from the closed position to the open position is permitted, and
- wherein in the open position access to the storage area is permitted and in the closed position access to the storage area is inhibited.
A vehicle comprising:
- a passenger compartment;
- a storage compartment provided in the passenger compartment, the storage compartment comprising:
- a housing defining a storage area;
- a lid pivotally coupled to the housing about a pivot axis for movement between a closed position and an opened position;
- a locking mechanism displaceable in a vehicle longitudinal direction to move between an unlocked position and a locked position, the vehicle longitudinal direction extending generally normal to the pivot axis;
- and
- a closure mechanism configured to inhibit movement of the lid from the closed position towards the opened position upon movement of the locking mechanism to the unlocked position due to movement of the housing in a first direction with respect to the lid, the first direction extending parallel with the vehicle longitudinal direction,
- wherein in the locked position movement of the lid from the closed position to the open position is inhibited and in the unlocked positon movement of the lid from the closed position to the open position is permitted, and
- wherein in the open position access to the storage area is permitted and in the closed position access to the storage area is inhibited.
