Abstract
An absorbent article may include an inner elasticised chassis. An opening may be formed through the inner elasticised chassis. The absorbent article may include an outer elasticised chassis, and an absorbent member located between the inner elasticised chassis and the outer elasticised chassis. The inner elasticised chassis may include sets of clastic strands surrounding the absorbent member. The opening may be located in a space between the sets of elastic strands.
Claims23
An absorbent article, the absorbent article comprising:
- an absorbent core comprising absorbent material, wherein the absorbent core has a first slit, a second slit, and a first fold line;
- elastics coupled with the absorbent core;
- wherein the elastics bias a portion of the absorbent core to fold along the first fold line, forming a first folded core section of the absorbent core, wherein the first folded core section is positioned between the first and second slits in the absorbent core, and wherein the first folded core section forms a first cuff of the absorbent core.
A method of making an absorbent core, the method comprising:
- slitting an absorbent core at two locations to form a first slit and a second slit in the absorbent core;
- and
- coupling elastics with the absorbent core, wherein the elastics bias a first portion of the absorbent core positioned between the first and second slits to fold along a first fold line as a first folded core section, wherein the first folded core section forms a first cuff of the absorbent core.
An absorbent article having cuffs integrated into an absorbent core, the absorbent article comprising:
- an absorbent core comprising absorbent material, the absorbent core having a first lateral edge, a second lateral edge, and a central region between the first and second lateral edges;
- a first slit and a second slit in the absorbent core, wherein the first and second slits extend from the first lateral side edge toward the central region;
- a third slit and a fourth slit in the absorbent core, wherein the third and fourth slits extend from the second lateral side edge toward the central region;
- a first fold line in the absorbent core and a second fold line in the absorbent core;
- a plurality of elastics coupled with the absorbent core;
- wherein the elastics bias a first portion of the absorbent core between the first and second slits to fold along the first fold line, forming a first folded core section of the absorbent core, and wherein the first folded core section forms a first cuff of the absorbent core;
- wherein the elastics bias a second portion of the absorbent core between the third and fourth slits to fold along the second fold line, forming a second folded core section of the absorbent core, and wherein the second folded core section forms a second cuff of the absorbent core;
- wherein the first and second folded core sections both project upward from a top surface of a remainder of the absorbent core and toward the central region of the absorbent core;
- and
- wherein the first and second cuffs comprise absorbent material.
