Payments platform, method and system having external and internal operating modes for ingesting payment transaction data from payment gateway services at a cloud computing platform

A system for integrating payment gateways with a cloud computing platform so that clients of the cloud computing platform can perform payment transactions with customers via the cloud computing platform, the system comprising at least one hardware-based processor and memory, wherein the memory comprises processor-executable instructions encoded on a non-transient processor-readable media, wherein the processor-executable instructions, when executed by the at least one hardware-based processor, are configurable to cause:

• receiving, from a service that is external to the cloud computing platform, a payment transaction request from a particular client of the cloud computing platform, wherein the payment transaction request is associated with a customer of the particular client and comprises transaction data from a transaction that occurred externally to the cloud computing platform;
• generating a record that comprises the transaction data from a payment transaction response generated by a payment gateway external to the cloud computing platform;
• persisting the record in a database system of the cloud computing platform with the transaction data designated as having been persisted in an external mode to indicate that the transaction data is from a transaction that occurred outside of the cloud computing platform, wherein the transaction data from the record is useable for subsequent payment transactions between the customer and the particular client that occur within the cloud computing platform;
• and
• using the transaction data from the record, at the cloud computing platform during a subsequent payment transaction with the customer of the particular client, to generate a subsequent payment transaction request.

A cloud computing platform, comprising:

• a multitenant database system that is configurable to provide applications and services to a plurality of clients, wherein each client is a tenant or organization of the cloud computing platform;
• and
• a payments platform for integrating payment gateways that are external to the cloud computing platform with the cloud computing platform so that the clients are able to perform payment transactions with customers using the payment gateways via the cloud computing platform, wherein a payment gateway, when executed by a first hardware-based processing system, is configurable to cause:
• receiving a payment transaction request from a particular client of the cloud computing platform via a service that is external to the cloud computing platform, wherein the payment transaction request is associated with a customer of the particular client and comprises transaction data from a transaction that occurred externally to the cloud computing platform;
• and
• generating a payment transaction response that comprises the transaction data;
• and
• wherein the payments platform, when executed by a second hardware-based processing system, is configurable to cause:
• generating a record that comprises the transaction data from the payment transaction response generated by the payment gateway;
• persisting the record in the multi-tenant database system with the transaction data designated as having been persisted in an external mode to indicate that the transaction data is from a transaction that occurred outside of the cloud computing platform, wherein the transaction data from the record is useable for subsequent payment transactions between the customer and the particular client that occur within the cloud computing platform;
• and
• using the transaction data from the record, at the cloud computing platform during a subsequent payment transaction with the customer of the particular client, to generate a subsequent payment transaction request.
