Abstract
The present disclosure relates to methods, apparatuses, and systems to measure one or more electrical signals from a cultured cell layer. In some embodiments, such electrical signals can be indicative of transport or lack of transport of an agent through the cell layer.
Claims7
A system comprising:
- a first chamber;
- a cultured layer disposed within the first chamber, wherein the cultured layer comprises a plurality of barrier cells seeded and then maintained within the first chamber, and wherein the cultured layer comprises tight junctions and/or adherens junctions;
- a substrate comprising one or more pores disposed within the substrate, wherein at least one pore is configured to form a seal with at least one barrier cell, and wherein at least one pore is a micropore or a nanopore;
- a second chamber in fluidic communication with the at least one pore;
- a probe configured to detect an electrical signal within a fluid disposed within the second chamber;
- and
- a circuit configured to receive the electrical signal as an input signal and to transmit a real component and an imaginary component of complex admittance as output signals.
