Abstract
A torque convertor and direct drive unit arrangement and operating methods are provided herein. In one example, a prime mover may be configured to be coupled to a transmission via one of a torque convertor and a direct drive unit, the direct drive unit including a higher range clutch and a lower range clutch.
Claims20
A system for a vehicle, comprising:
- a prime mover configured to selectively couple to a transmission via each of a torque converter and a direct drive unit, wherein the direct drive unit includes a higher range clutch and a lower range clutch;
- a set of directional clutches rotationally coupled to the torque converter;
- and
- a set of range clutches rotationally coupled to and positioned downstream from the set of directional clutches.

A transmission system comprising:
- an engine configured to selectively couple to a transmission via each of a torque converter and a direct drive unit, wherein the direct drive unit includes a higher range clutch and a lower range clutch;
- a set of directional clutches rotationally coupled to and positioned downstream of the torque converter;
- and
- a set of range clutches rotationally coupled to and positioned downstream from the set of directional clutches;
- wherein the set of directional clutches includes a forward clutch and a reverse clutch.
