Abstract
A wind turbine rotor includes an axle, a plurality of primary blades disposed at regular intervals around the axle, and a plurality of secondary blades disposed around the axle between primary blades of the plurality of primary blades. Each secondary blade of the plurality of secondary blades is smaller than each primary blade of the plurality of primary blades.
Claims20
A wind turbine rotor comprising:
- an axle;
- a plurality of primary blades disposed at regular intervals around the axle, the plurality of primary blades consisting of two or three primary blades;
- and
- a plurality of secondary blades disposed around the axle between primary blades of the plurality of primary blades, each secondary blade of the plurality of secondary blades being smaller than each primary blade of the plurality of primary blades, each secondary blade of the plurality of secondary blades being positioned such that each secondary blade provides a shielding effect to an adjacent following primary blade of the plurality of primary blades opposite a direction of a rotation of the wind turbine rotor, the shielding effect comprising causing a displacement of wind flow against the rotation away from the adjacent following primary blade.

A wind turbine system for generating electricity, the wind turbine system comprising:
- an electric generator;
- and
- a wind turbine rotor comprising:
- an axle mechanically coupled to the generator;
- a plurality of primary blades disposed at regular intervals around the axle, the plurality of primary blades consisting of two or three primary blades;
- and
- a plurality of secondary blades disposed around the axle between primary blades of the plurality of primary blades, each secondary blade of the plurality of secondary blades being smaller than each primary blade of the plurality of primary blades, each secondary blade of the plurality of secondary blades being positioned such that each secondary blade provides a shielding effect to an adjacent following primary blade of the plurality of primary blades opposite a direction of a rotation of the wind turbine rotor, the shielding effect comprising causing a displacement of wind flow against the rotation away from the adjacent following primary blade.
