Abstract
The present invention relates to functionalized saccharides anti-inflammatory agents which acts upon inflammatory mechanisms in mammals, in particular anti-inflammatory agents which act upon the expression of at least one cytokine by suppressing or inhibiting the expression of the at least one cytokine wherein said cytokine is selected from the group consisting of pro-inflammatory cytokines, anti-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines.

A method of treatment of an inflammatory disease or inflammatory-related disease in a mammal comprising administering an effective amount of an anti-inflammatory compound (C) according to general formula (Ib) herein, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, solvate, isomer, or mixture thereof, to a mammal in need thereof, wherein the inflammatory disease or inflammatory-related disease is not driven by a microbial infection, wherein the inflammatory disease or inflammatory-related disease is a gastrointestinal inflammatory disorder selected from the group consisting of:
- acute gastritis, chronic gastritis, the development and recurrence of gastric ulcers, Crohn's disease, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, and ulcerative colitis, and
- wherein said anti-inflammatory compound (C) acts upon inflammatory mechanisms in mammals
