Abstract
A transcatheter heart valve includes a paravalvular seal that is configured for transfemoral delivery. The valve includes a frame and the seal is formed from a plurality of outwardly extending fibers.
Claims26
A heart valve assembly comprising:
- a covering housing a prosthetic heart valve, wherein the covering extends around the prosthetic heart valve for providing sealing to prosthetic heart valve leaflets;
- a gridded metallic support being secured to the covering by a plurality of stitches;
- and
- a sealing material positioned externally to the support for providing sealing between the support and a patient's anatomical wall to prevent paravalvular leaks,
- wherein the sealing material includes a plurality of radially extending fibers that extend outwardly away of the support,
- wherein the sealing material defines spacings extending through a thickness of the sealing material such that portions of the support behind the sealing material are visible through the spacings when the heart valve assembly is in an undeployed state,
- wherein the covering is made of a polymer.
4 more elements
A method of deploying a transcatheter aortic valve assembly, wherein the method comprises:
- endovascularly positioning a guide wire through the transfemoral artery into the aortic valve of a patient;
- endovascularly deploying advancing the transcatheter aortic valve assembly through the transfemoral artery of a patient;
- wherein the transcatheter aortic valve assembly includes:
- a covering housing a prosthetic heart valve, wherein the covering extends around the prosthetic heart valve for providing sealing to prosthetic heart valve leaflets;
- a metallic support being secured to the covering by a plurality of stitches;
- and
- a sealing material positioned externally to the support for providing sealing between the support and a patient's anatomical wall to prevent paravalvular leaks,
- wherein the sealing material includes a plurality of radially extending fibers that extend outwardly away of the support,
- wherein the covering is made of a polymer,
- wherein the sealing material is free of an outer graft covering between the fibers and the support;
- inflating a balloon assembly to expand the transcatheter aortic valve assembly to compress the radially extending fibers into native valve leaflets of the aorta to create a paravalvular seal.

- wherein the sealing material includes a plurality of radially extending fibers that extend outwardly away of the support,
- wherein the covering is made of a polymer,
- wherein the sealing material is free of an outer graft covering between the fibers and the support.

- wherein the covering is made of a polymer,
- wherein the support is formed from a plurality of struts that define apices at an inflow end of the support and are positioned at a same planar level,
- wherein at least two apices of the support are uncovered by the sealing material such that an end of the at least two apices extend more proximally than the sealing material,
- wherein a most proximally located arcuate fibers extend outwardly away from the support at a position distal of the at least two apices,
- wherein the covering extends from a position inwardly of the support to outwardly of the support to cover the at least two apices.
