An integrated device configured to detect extravasation or infiltration, the integrated device comprising:
- a flexible substrate comprising:
- a dressing layer, the dressing layer configured to contact an outer surface of a body portion;
- a structural layer coupled to the dressing layer, the structural layer to support a transmitter, a sensor, and a signal processor in the flexible substrate, the transmitter, sensor, and signal processor being at least partially disposed in the structural layer and enclosed by a radio frequency (RF) isolating layer;
- a fluid guiding component positioned on the flexible substrate, the transmitter and sensor positioned relative to the fluid guiding component wherein the transmitter to generate a first signal toward tissue of the body and the sensor to detect the first signal wherein the first signal representing a baseline condition of a fluid level in a body prior to insertion of an amount of fluid into the body;
- and wherein the transmitter to generate a second signal toward the tissue of the body and the sensor to detect the second signal wherein the second signal being generated at a subsequent time compared to the first signal and during a time when fluid is being injected into the body portion;
- wherein the signal processor configured to compare the first signal detected by the sensor to the second signal detected by the sensor to determine a change between the first signal detected by the sensor and the second signal detected by the sensor;
- and wherein a change between the first signal detected by the sensor and the second signal detected by the sensor represents a change in a fluid level in the tissue of the body;
- the signal processor further configured to generate an indication representing a change in the first signal detected by the sensor compared to the second signal detected by the sensor.
