Abstract
Example embodiments describe an optical line terminal, OLT, configured to perform determining a fragmentation allocation for respective ONUs; and notifying, the respective ONUs, of the fragmentation allocation. Other example embodiments relate to an optical network unit, ONU, configured to perform receiving, from the OLT, fragmentation allocation for fragmenting one or more packets; processing the packets in accordance with the fragmentation allocation to obtain fragmented and unfragmented packets; and forwarding, to the OLT, the fragmented and unfragmented packets in accordance with the dynamic upstream allocation map.
Claims13
An optical line terminal (OLT), configured to communicate in an optical network with optical network units (ONU)s, and to receive packets from the ONUs, the OLT comprising at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code, the at least one memory and computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the OLT to perform:
- determining a fragmentation allocation for respective ONUs based on information on OLT resources available for processing the packets from the ONUs, the fragmentation allocation indicating at least one enabling or disabling fragmentation for data traffic for the respective ONUs;
- deriving an upstream bandwidth allocation map for the respective ONUs based on the determined fragmentation allocation;
- and
- notifying the respective ONUs of the determined fragmentation allocation.
An optical network unit (ONU), configured to communicate in an optical network with an optical line terminal, OLT, and to forward packets to the OLT in accordance with a dynamic upstream allocation map, the ONU comprising at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code, the at least one memory and computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the ONU to perform:
- receiving, from the OLT, fragmentation allocation for fragmenting one or more packets;
- processing the packets in accordance with the fragmentation allocation to obtain processed packets;
- and
- forwarding, to the OLT, the processed packets in accordance with the dynamic upstream allocation map,
- wherein the fragmentation allocation is determined based on information on OLT resources available for processing the packets from the ONU, the fragmentation allocation indicating at least one of enabling or disabling fragmentation for data traffic for the ONU, and
- wherein the dynamic upstream allocation map for the ONU is based on the fragmentation allocation.
