Abstract
Provided herein are devices, systems, methods and various means, including those related to providing a community internet drive that may utilize a centrally-managed hub as well as storage devices distributed among various networked machines. In some embodiments, the community internet drive can also include features to enable its users to promote and utilize the user's trusted personal relationships while also enabling an open platform for peer-to-peer and/or other types of sharing schemes.

An apparatus for managing content delivery within a community internet drive, the community internet drive comprising a plurality of client machines each having a local storage device partitioned into a private portion and a shared portion, wherein each shared portion is included in the community internet drive and each private portion is excluded from the community internet drive, the apparatus comprising at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code, the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to:
- track each content of a plurality of content uploaded to the community internet drive and any of one or more duplicate copies of each content of the plurality of content, wherein the tracking comprises one or more of metadata comparisons, direct file inspection, direct data inspection, hash comparisons, tracking associations generated from past successful copy events, and wherein the one or more duplicate copies of the each content is a result of a download of the each content completed by the one or more other client machines of the plurality of client machines of the community internet drive;
- publish content availability in response to receiving publication notice from one or more publishers associated with one or more client machines within the community drive;
- and
- service requests for content delivery of the plurality of content from one or more client machines within the community internet drive.
A computer program product for managing content delivery within a community internet drive, the community internet drive comprising a plurality of client machines each having a local storage device partitioned into a private portion and a shared portion, wherein each shared portion is included in the community internet drive and each private portion is excluded from the community internet drive, the computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause an apparatus to:
- track each content of a plurality of content uploaded to the community internet drive and any of one or more duplicate copies of each content of the plurality of content, wherein the tracking comprises one or more of metadata comparisons, direct file inspection, direct data inspection, hash comparisons, tracking associations generated from past successful copy events, and wherein the one or more duplicate copies of the each content is a result of a download of the each content completed by the one or more other client machines of the plurality of client machines of the community internet drive;
- publish content availability in response to receiving publication notice from one or more publishers associated with one or more client machines within the community drive;
- and
- service requests for content delivery of the plurality of content from one or more client machines within the community internet drive.
A computer-implemented method for managing content delivery within a community internet drive, the community internet drive comprising a plurality of client machines each having a local storage device partitioned into a private portion and a shared portion, wherein each shared portion is included in the community internet drive and each private portion is excluded from the community internet drive, the method comprising:
- tracking each content of a plurality of content uploaded to the community internet drive and any of one or more duplicate copies of each content of the plurality of content, wherein the tracking comprises one or more of metadata comparisons, direct file inspection, direct data inspection, hash comparisons, tracking associations generated from past successful copy events, and wherein the one or more duplicate copies of the each content is a result of a download of the each content completed by the one or more other client machines of the plurality of client machines of the community internet drive;
- publishing content availability in response to receiving publication notice from one or more publishers associated with one or more client machines within the community drive;
- and
- servicing requests for content delivery of the plurality of content from one or more client machines within the community internet drive.
