Abstract
A method for starting an internal combustion engine (ICE) having a crankshaft and an electric turning machine (ETM) operatively connected to the crankshaft comprises energizing an absolute position sensor adapted for providing an indication of an angular position of a rotor of the ETM and applying a current to the ETM to generate a sufficient torque to rotate the crankshaft.
Claims16
A method for starting an internal combustion engine (ICE) having a crankshaft and an electric turning machine (ETM) operatively connected to the crankshaft, the method comprising:
- sensing a temperature related to a starting condition of the ICE;
- in response to the sensed temperature exceeding a temperature threshold:
- applying a current to the ETM to generate a sufficient torque to rotate the crankshaft based on an indication of an angular position of a rotor of the ETM obtained from an energized absolute position sensor;
- and
- in response to the sensed temperature being less than the temperature threshold:
- energizing at least one of the absolute position sensor and a crankshaft position sensor in response to a rotation of the crankshaft, the rotation of the crankshaft being provided by an actuation of a manual start.
