Coupling device and self-sealing valve assemblies for connecting and disconnecting a hose to a fire hydrant

A detachable coupling device for connecting and disconnecting a hose to a fire hydrant, the device comprising:

• a male component;
• a female component positioned within a receiver of the fire hydrant and configured for engagement with the male component;
• and,
• a valve assembly within an interior space of the female component, the valve assembly comprising a first shutter plate overlapping a second shutter plate,
• wherein the valve assembly is configured to control water flow from the fire hydrant when the male component engages the female component activating the valve assembly, and
• wherein the valve assembly further comprises a valve interface element for engaging a center nut of the first shutter plate, wherein the first shutter plate is rotatable in relation to the second shutter plate forming fluid passages to release the water flow between the first shutter plate and the second shutter plate.
