Abstract
A miter gauge for guiding a work piece over a work platform has a base assembly that slides over the work platform and a fence that engages the work piece on the work platform. The fence is movable relative to the base assembly and includes a first locating member. A second locating member is operatively connected to the base assembly and selectively engages the first locating member of the fence. The second locating member moves between a locked position where the second locating member is engaged with the first locating member to inhibit movement of the fence and hold the fence at a preset position and an unlocked position where the second locating member disengages the first locating member so that the fence and base assembly are free to move relative to one another.
Claims29
A miter gauge for guiding a work piece over a work platform, the miter gauge comprising:
- a base assembly configured to engage and slide over the work platform, the base assembly including a flat plate member;
- a fence configured to engage the work piece on the work platform, the fence defining a longitudinal axis extending between opposite ends of the fence, the fence and base assembly being connected to one another for relative movement via the flat plate member such that the fence is selectively positionable longitudinally along the base assembly to adjust a longitudinal position of the fence with respect to the base assembly, the fence including a first locating member, the fence including a first race and a second race, the flat plate member disposed in the first race and the first locating member disposed in the second race, the first and second races being immovably fixed relative to one another;
- and
- a second locating member operatively connected to the base assembly and configured to selectively engage the first locating member of the fence when the first and second locating members are aligned along the longitudinal axis of the fence, the second locating member being moveable between a locked position where the second locating member is engaged with the first locating member to inhibit longitudinal movement of the fence with respect to the base assembly and hold the fence at a preset longitudinal position with respect to the base assembly and an unlocked position where the second locating member is disengaged with the first locating member such that the base assembly is free to move to other longitudinal positions along the fence.
A fence assembly for engaging a work piece on a work platform, the fence assembly comprising:
- a base assembly comprising a miter gauge;
- a fence configured to engage the work piece on the work platform, the fence defining a longitudinal axis extending between opposite ends of the fence, the fence configured to be movably connected to the base assembly of the miter gauge so that the fence is selectively positionable longitudinally relative to the base assembly of the miter gauge;
- and
- a first locating member and a second locating member of the base assembly movable relative to the fence and configured to be releasably secured to the fence at a set longitudinal position along the fence, the first locating member configured to be selectively engaged by the base assembly of the miter gauge to hold the fence at a home position relative to the base assembly of the miter gauge;
- wherein the first locating member is releasably securable to the fence at the set longitudinal position independent of the entire base assembly;
- wherein the base assembly includes a first flat plate member configured to form a first movable connection between the base assembly and the fence and a second flat plate member configured to form a second movable connection between the base assembly and the fence.
