Abstract
A water emulsion and film are provided comprising a polyacrylate random copolymer synthesized from acrylic acid (AA), butyl acrylate (BA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (EHA). The emulsion may be applied to a surface in liquid form, quickly drying to yield a peelable protective barrier film.
Claims11
An emulsion comprising:
- (i) a bimodal acrylic random copolymer comprising polymeric subunits consisting of:
- a first polymeric subunit,
- present between 1 to 5 wt %+/−0.5 wt %;
- a second polymeric subunit,
- present between 21 to 41 wt %+/−0.1 wt %;
- a third polymeric subunit,
- present between 27 to 57.5 wt %+/−0.1 wt %;
- and
- a fourth polymeric subunit,
- present between 19 to 34 wt %+/−0.1 wt %, wherein the acrylic random copolymer is present in the emulsion between 40 to 55 wt %;
- (ii) water, wherein the water is present in the emulsion between 44 to 59 wt %;
- (iii) a buffer present in an amount effective to maintain a pH between 4 and 10;
- and
- (iv) a non-ionic surfactant present between 0.1 and 1.0 wt %.
