A fluid flow control valve includes a valve body with a fluid flow lumen therethrough and a valve member located within the fluid flow lumen. At least one of the valve body and the valve member is resilient and respectively sized for movement between a normally closed position in which the valve member and a fluid lumen surface are in sufficient annular contact to block fluid flow through the fluid flow lumen and an open position in which at least one of the valve body and the valve member flexes to a spaced apart position that allows the fluid flow between the valve body and the valve member. Downstream fluid pressure may contact the valve body to enhance sealing. A fluid absorbent member may also be employed with the valve body. Flow control devices, such as medical fluid injection devices, and methods may employ the valve.
A method of controlling fluid flow employing a flow control valve comprising a resilient valve body including a fluid flow lumen therein, said fluid flow lumen having an interior surface and an inlet portion, and the flow control valve further including a rigid valve member located within the fluid flow lumen, the rigid valve member being generally spherically shaped with a maximum diameter sized cross-sectionally larger than the fluid flow lumen to contact the interior surface of the fluid flow lumen and block the fluid flow therethrough when the resilient valve body is in a relaxed condition, said resilient valve body further including an annular shoulder positioned between the rigid valve member and the inlet portion of the fluid flow lumen, the method including:
