A smartphone comprising a processor, a memory, a user interface comprising a touchscreen display, a network element for wireless communications, and instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:
- present one or more interactive elements for requesting emergency assistance on the touchscreen display;
- receive one or more user interactions with the one or more interactive elements for requesting emergency assistance on the touchscreen display, wherein the one or more user interactions are indicative of an emergency;
- initiate a delay timer for sending an emergency alert after the one or more user interactions indicative of the emergency are received;
- present an option for a user to cancel the emergency alert before the delay timer expires;
- and
- transmit the emergency alert to an emergency management system based on the delay timer expiring without user cancellation of the emergency alert.
A computer-implemented method of sending an emergency alert, comprising:
- presenting one or more interactive elements for requesting emergency assistance on a touchscreen display of smart device;
- receiving one or more user interactions with the one or more interactive elements for requesting emergency assistance on the touchscreen display, wherein the one or more user interactions are indicative of an emergency;
- initiating a delay timer for sending an emergency alert after the one or more user interactions indicative of the emergency are received;
- presenting an option on the touchscreen display for a user to cancel the emergency alert before the delay timer expires;
- and
- transmitting the emergency alert to an emergency management system based on the delay timer expiring without user cancellation of the emergency alert.
Non-transitory computer readable storage media encoded with a computer program including instructions executable by at least one processor that cause the at least one processor to:
- present one or more interactive elements for requesting emergency assistance on a touchscreen display;
- receive, from a user, one or more user interactions with the one or more interactive elements for requesting emergency assistance on the touchscreen display, wherein the one or more user interactions are indicative of an emergency;
- initiating a delay timer for sending an emergency alert after the one or more user interactions indicative of the emergency are received;
- present an option for the user to cancel the emergency alert before the delay timer expires;
- and
- transmit the emergency alert to an emergency management system based on the delay timer expiring without user cancellation of the emergency alert.
