Abstract
A system for cooling a mobile phone and method for using the system are described. The system includes an active piezoelectric cooling system, a controller and an interface. The active piezoelectric cooling system is configured to be disposed in a rear portion of the mobile phone distal from a front screen of the mobile phone. The controller is configured to activate the active piezoelectric cooling system in response to heat generated by heat-generating structures of the mobile phone. The interface is configured to receive power from a mobile phone power source when the active piezoelectric cooling system is activated.

- a controller configured to activate the active cooling system in response to heat generated by the at least one heat-generating structure of the mobile phone;
- and
- an interface configured to receive power from a mobile phone power source when the active cooling system is activated;
- wherein the controller being configured to activate the cooling system in response to the heat generated further includes the controller being configured to:
- predict that the at least one heat-generating structure will generate the heat based upon at least one of a temperature measurement, a clock speed, a usage pattern, and an interface use.
A system for cooling a compute device comprising:
- an active cooling system including a plurality of active cooling elements and at least one orifice plate having at least one orifice therein, the orifice plate being disposed between the plurality of active cooling elements and at least one heat-generating structure of the compute device;
- a controller configured to selectively activate at least a portion of the plurality of active cooling elements of the active cooling system in response to heat generated by the at least one heat-generating structure of the compute device, the at least the portion of the plurality of active cooling elements undergoing vibrational motion that drives a fluid through the at least one orifice and toward the at least one heat-generating structure at a speed of at least thirty meters per second in response to being activated, the vibrational motion including deformation of each of the at least the portion of the plurality of active cooling elements;
- and
- an interface configured to receive power from a compute device power source when the active cooling system is activated;
- wherein the controller being configured to selectively activate the cooling system in response to the heat generated further includes the controller being configured to:
- predicting that the at least one heat-generating structure will generate the heat based upon at least one of a temperature measurement, a clock speed, a usage pattern, and an interface use.
A method of cooling a mobile device, comprising:
- determining that at least one heat-generating structure of the mobile device generates heat during operation of the mobile device;
- and
- driving an active cooling system in response to a determination that the at least one heat-generating structure generates heat, the active cooling system including at least one active cooling element and at least one orifice plate having at least one orifice therein, the orifice plate being disposed between the active cooling element and the at least one heat-generating structure, the active cooling system being disposed in a portion of the mobile device, the driving including activating at a portion of the least one active cooling element to undergo vibrational motion that drives a fluid through the at least one orifice and toward the at least one heat-generating structure at a speed of at least thirty meters per second, the vibrational motion including deformation of the at least one active cooling element;
