A computer-implemented method of facilitating and rewarding collaboration between players in an online game, the method comprising:
- executing, by one or more servers, an instance of an online game;
- facilitating, by one or more servers, participation by the players in the online game through client computing platforms associated with the players, wherein facilitating participation by the individual ones of the players in the online game includes receiving input from the one or more client computing platforms and updating the instance of the online game based on the input, wherein the players include a first player and a second player, wherein individual ones of the players are associated with individual in-game inventories that include one or more in-game resources that are usable within the online game responsive to receipt of the input provided by corresponding players via one or more client computing platforms, wherein individual ones of the players are associated with individual user characters controllable within the online game responsive to receipt of the input provided by corresponding players via one or more client computing platforms;
- facilitating, by the one or more servers, participation in collaborative gameplay towards a goal within the online game, wherein achieving the goal requires completing a series of individual tasks by the players, wherein the series of individual tasks includes provision of the one or more in-game resources by one or more individual ones of the players from their corresponding individual in-game inventories and control of one or more user characters within the online game by corresponding players, wherein facilitating participation in collaborative gameplay towards the goal includes receiving control inputs from the one or more client computing platforms associated with the provision of individual ones of the one or more in-game resources and the control of the one or more user characters, wherein the goal is associated with a multiplayer award, wherein the series of individual tasks includes a first task individually performable by the first player, and wherein the series of individual tasks includes a second task individually performable by the second player;
- automatically determining, by the one or more servers, contributions towards completion of the series of individual tasks of the goal such that a first contribution by the first player towards the completion of the series of individual tasks of the goal is determined, and further such that a second contribution by the second player towards the completion of the series of individual tasks of the goal is determined, wherein the determination is made based on the control inputs received from the one or more client computing platforms associated with the provision of individual ones of the one or more in-game resources and the control of the one or more user characters;
- automatically detecting, by the one or more servers, the completion of the series of individual tasks that achieves the goal, wherein the detection is made based on the control inputs received from the one or more client computing platforms associated with the provision of individual ones of the one or more in-game resources and the control of the one or more user characters;
- responsive to detection of the completion, automatically determining, by the one or more servers, the multiplayer award including a first portion of the multiplayer award that is a first award and a second portion of the multiplayer award that is a second award such that the first award is determined based on the first contribution by the first player and the second award is determined based on the second contribution by the second player;
- providing, by the one or more servers, the first award to the first player, wherein providing the first award to the first player includes one or more of updating an in-game inventory associated with the first player and/or updating a user character associated with the first user within the instance of the online game;
- and
- providing, by the one or more servers, the second award to the second player, wherein providing the second award to the second player includes one or more of updating an in-game inventory associated with the second player and/or updating a user character associated with the second user within the instance of the online game.
