Abstract
A system and method for typing training are disclosed in which a fingerprint recognition system is included. The system recognizes a typist's fingers or fingerprints while the typist types the keys on a keypad such that the system determines which finger has pressed a particular key and can notify the typist when an incorrect finger is used to press a particular key. The system is well suited for tutorial typing where the typist is reinforced to use the correct finger to type each particular key. The system may be implemented using a specially designed keyboard or it may be implemented as an application.
Claims20
A typing training system, comprising:
- a keypad having a plurality of keys;
- an overlay that is removably placed and lays on top of the keypad and has a hardware finger recognition sensor in the overlay for each of the keys of the keypad;
- the hardware finger recognition sensor for each of the keys of the keypad senses a press of a key of the keypad by a particular finger of a particular user when the overlay is on top of the keypad, wherein the hardware finger recognition sensor for each key is configured before use by the particular user for typing training, to capture an identifier of the particular finger of the particular user that presses the key;
- the hardware finger recognition sensor for a key being pressed being configured to generate a sensor signal for the key being pressed;
- a processor connected to each hardware finger recognition sensor configured to determine that the key being pressed is pressed by a wrong finger of the particular user based on a stored correct finger identifier of the particular user for the key being pressed not matching the identifier captured via the hardware finger recognition sensor for the key being pressed;
- and
- a display that generates a typing training user interface, the display showing a message when the key being pressed of the keypad is pressed by the wrong finger of the particular user.
A keypad, comprising:
- a plurality of keys;
- an overlay that is removably placed and lays on top of the plurality of keys and has a finger recognition sensor in the overlay for each of the keys;
- the finger recognition sensor for each of the keys of the plurality of keys senses a press of a key by a particular finger of a user when the overlay is on top of the plurality of keys, wherein the finger recognition sensor for each key is configured, before use by the user for typing training, to capture a finger identifier of the particular finger of the user that presses the key;
- the finger recognition sensor for a key being pressed by the user configured to generate a sensor signal for the key being pressed;
- a processor that receives the sensor signal for the key being pressed and the finger identifier for the key being pressed and determines if the wrong finger of the user is being used to press the key being pressed based on a stored correct finger identifier for the key being pressed not matching the sensor signal for the key being pressed.
A computerized method for typing training, comprising:
- providing an overlay that is removably placed and lays on top of a keypad and has a finger recognition sensor in the overlay for each of the keys of the keypad;
- configuring the finger recognition sensor of a typing training system for each key, before use by a user for typing training, to capture a finger identifier of a finger of the user that presses the key when the overlay is on top of the keypad;
- receiving a key press from the keypad;
- sensing, by the finger recognition sensor, the key press by a particular finger of a user;
- determining, based on the sensed key press and a stored correct finger identifier for the correct finger for the sensed key press, if the key was pressed by a wrong finger of the user;
- and
- notifying the user when the wrong finger of the user pressed the key.
