Abstract
Provided herein are olefinic feedstocks derived from conjugated hydrocarbon terpenes (e.g., C10-C50 terpenes), methods for making the same, and methods for their use.
Claims5
A method comprising selectively hydrogenating a conjugated terpene comprising at least three olefinic bonds, wherein two of the at least three olefinic bonds form a conjugated diene, wherein the conjugated terpene is selected from the group consisting of a conjugated C15 terpene, a conjugated C20 terpene, and a conjugated C30 terpene, wherein the selective hydrogenation occurs in a single stage reaction in the presence of a catalyst, and wherein the catalyst is not molybdenum disulfide, to make a composition comprising at least about 55% mono-olefinic species and at most about 10% di-olefinic species.
