Abstract
A packet processing method includes a first network device receiving a first Bit Index Explicit Replication (BIER) packet including a first BIER header. When the first BIER packet is a packet sent to a second network device, and in response to determining that the second network device is an edge node device in a BIER communication network and does not support BIER packet forwarding, the first network device determines a target label used for a reverse path forwarding (RPF) check, updates the first BIER packet to obtain a second BIER packet, where the second BIER packet includes the target label but does not include the first BIER header, and sends the second BIER packet to the second network device.
Claims30
A packet processing method implemented by a first network device in a Bit Index Explicit Replication (BIER) communication network, wherein the BIER communication network communicates with a network device outside of the BIER communication network by using an edge node device in the BIER communication network, and wherein the packet processing method comprises:
- receiving a first BIER packet, wherein the first BIER packet comprises a first BIER header;
- determining, when the first BIER packet is sent to a second network device in the BIER communication network, whether the second network device is the edge node device and whether the second network device supports BIER packet forwarding;
- in response to determining that the second network device is the edge node device and that the second network device does not support BIER packet forwarding, determining a target label and updating the first BIER packet to a second BIER packet, wherein the second BIER packet comprises the target label and does not comprise the first BIER header, and wherein the target label is configured to trigger the second network device to perform a reverse path forwarding (RPF) check based on the target label;
- and
- sending the second BIER packet to the second network device.
A packet processing method implemented by a second network device in a Bit Index Explicit Replication (BIER) communication network, wherein the second network device is an edge node device in the BIER communication network, wherein the BIER communication network communicates with a network device outside the BIER communication network by using the edge node device, and wherein the packet processing method comprises:
- receiving a second BIER packet from a first network device in the BIER communication network, wherein the second BIER packet is from a first BIER packet updated by the first network device, wherein the first BIER packet comprising a first BIER header, wherein the second BIER packet comprises a target label and does not comprise the first BIER header, and wherein the target label is configured to trigger the second network device to perform a reverse path forwarding (RPF) check based on the target label;
- obtaining the target label in the second BIER packet;
- and
- performing the RPF check based on the target label.
A packet processing apparatus implemented by a first network device in a Bit Index Explicit Replication (BIER) communication network, wherein the BIER communication network communicates with a network device outside the BIER communication network by using an edge node device, and wherein the packet processing apparatus comprises:
- a non-transitory memory configured to store instructions;
- and
- a processor coupled to the non-transitory memory, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the packet processing apparatus to be configured to:
- receive a first BIER packet, wherein the first BIER packet comprises a first BIER header;
- when the first BIER packet is sent to a second network device in the BIER communication network, determine whether the second network device is the edge node device and whether the second network device supports BIER packet forwarding;
- in response to determining that the second network device is the edge node device and that the second network device does not support BIER packet forwarding, determine a target label and update the first BIER packet to a second BIER packet, wherein the second BIER packet comprises the target label and does not comprise the first BIER header, and wherein the target label is configured to trigger the second network device to perform a reverse path forwarding (RPF) check based on the target label;
- and
- send the second BIER packet to the second network device.
A packet processing apparatus implemented by a second network device in a Bit Index Explicit Replication (BIER) communication network, wherein the second network device is an edge node device in the BIER communication network, wherein the BIER communication network communicates with a network device outside the BIER communication network by using the edge node device, and wherein the packet processing apparatus comprises:
- a non-transitory memory configured to store instructions;
- and
- a processor coupled to the non-transitory memory, wherein the instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the packet processing apparatus to be configured to:
- receive a second BIER packet from a first network device in the BIER communication network, wherein the second BIER packet is obtained through a first BIER packet updated by the first network device, wherein the first BIER packet comprises a first BIER header, wherein the second BIER packet comprises a target label and does not comprise the first BIER header, and wherein the target label is configured to trigger the second network device to perform a reverse path forwarding (RPF) check based on the target label;
- obtain the target label in the second BIER packet;
- and
- perform the RPF check based on the target label.
