Abstract
A codeset having function-code combinations is provisioned on a controlling device to control functions of an intended target device. Input is provided to the controlling device which designates a function to be controlled on the intended target device. From a plurality of codes that are each associated with the designated function in a database stored in a memory of the controlling device a first code that is determined to be valid for use in controlling the designated function on the intended target device is selected. When the codeset is then provisioned on the controlling device, the provisioned codeset includes as a function-code combination thereof the designated function and the first code.
Claims18
A method performed by a controlling device for commanding functional operations of a controlled device, comprising:
- receiving input at the controlling device to link a first preset codeset stored in a memory of the controlling device to an operating mode of the controlling device in which the controlling device is to be used for commanding the functional operations of the controlled device;
- performing an auto-scan function to cause a one of a plurality of input elements of the controlling device that was linked within the first preset codeset to a first keycode present in the first preset codeset to instead be linked within the first preset codeset to a second keycode present in a second preset codeset stored in the memory of the controlling device;
- and
- when the controlling device is subsequently placed into the operating mode for commanding the functional operations of the controlled device, responding to an activation of the one of the plurality of input elements of the controlling device by causing the second keycode present in the second codeset to be used to generate a first command for transmission to the controlled device via use of a transmitter of the controlling device while responding to an activation of a further one of the plurality of input elements of the controlling device by causing a third keycode present in the first codeset and linked within the first codeset to the further one of the plurality of input elements of the controlling device to be used to generate a second command for transmission to the controlled device via use of the transmitter of the controlling device.
A non-transitory, computer readable media having stored thereon instructions wherein the instructions, when executed by a controlling device, cause the controlling device to perform steps comprising:
- receiving input to link a first preset codeset stored in a memory of the controlling device to an operating mode of the controlling device in which the controlling device is to be used for commanding functional operations of a controlled device;
- performing an auto-scan function to cause a one of a plurality of input elements of the controlling device that was linked within the first preset codeset to a first keycode present in the first preset codeset to instead be linked within the first preset codeset to a second keycode present in a second preset codeset stored in the memory of the controlling device;
- and
- when the controlling device is subsequently placed into the operating mode for commanding the functional operations of the controlled device, responding to an activation of the one of the plurality of input elements of the controlling device being activated by causing the second keycode present in the second codeset to be used to generate a first command for transmission to the controlled device via use of a transmitter of the controlling device while responding to an activation of a further one of the plurality of input elements of the controlling device being activated by causing a third keycode present in the first codeset and linked within the first codeset to the further one of the plurality of input elements of the controlling device to be used to generate a second command for transmission to the controlled device via use of the transmitter of the controlling device.
