Abstract
A method, system and external instrument are provided. The method initiates a communication link between an external instrument (EI) and an implantable medical device (IMD), established a first connection interval for conveying data packets between the EI and IMD and monitors a connection criteria that includes at least one of a data throughput requirement. A battery indicator or link condition of the communications link is between the IMD and EI. The method further changes from the first connection interval to a second connection interval based on the connection criteria.

A method, comprising:
- initiating a communications session between an external instrument (EI) and an implantable medical device (IMD);
- collecting connection criteria for the communications session, wherein the connection criteria include a data throughput;
- comparing the connection criteria to a threshold;
- and
- terminating a connection link for the communications session based on the comparison of the connection criteria to the threshold.
A system, comprising:
- an external instrument (EI) comprising:
- memory configured to store program instructions;
- a processor that, when executing the program instructions, is configured to:
- initiate a communications session between EI and an implantable medical device (IMD);
- collect connection criteria for the communications session, wherein the connection criteria include a data throughput;
- compare the connection criteria to a threshold;
- and
- terminate a connection link for the communications session based on the comparison of the connection criteria to the threshold.
