Abstract
A portable electronic device comprising: an enclosure having an enclosure wall that forms an interior chamber and a sound output port to an ambient environment; a speaker positioned within the interior chamber, the speaker having a front volume chamber coupling a sound output surface of the speaker to the sound output port and a back volume chamber acoustically coupled to the interior chamber by an aperiodic vent; and a valve operable to open and close the aperiodic vent in response to a pressure change.
Claims20
A portable electronic device comprising:
- an enclosure having an enclosure wall that forms an interior chamber and a sound output port to an ambient environment;
- a speaker positioned within the interior chamber, the speaker having a front volume chamber coupling a sound output surface of the speaker to the sound output port and a back volume chamber acoustically coupled to the interior chamber by an aperiodic vent;
- and
- a valve operable to transition between an open position and a closed position in response to a pressure change, and wherein the aperiodic vent is formed in the valve.
A portable electronic device comprising:
- an enclosure having an enclosure wall that forms an interior chamber;
- a driver module positioned within the interior chamber, the driver module having a driver and a module wall forming a back volume chamber of the driver, wherein the back volume chamber comprises an opening in the module wall to the interior chamber;
- and
- an impulse pressure rejecting valve coupled to the opening, the impulse pressure rejecting valve having a flow resistive mesh coupled to a valve diaphragm that transitions to a closed position in response to an impulse pressure and an open position in the absence of the impulse pressure.
