System and method for load mitigation in request handling

An intermediation server, comprising:

• a communications interface;
• a processor connected with the communications interface, the processor configured to:
• receive, via the communications interface, a request containing requested item characteristics for items provided by a set of provider systems;
• generate an intermediate reply defining a set of items matching the characteristics in the request, the set of items provided by a subset of the provider systems;
• determine that a first item of the set of erns is eligible for provider-specific adjustment
• in order to generate an adjusted reply:
• communicate with a hosted offer management system to receive instructions for adjusting the first item in the intermediate reply, the hosted offer management system providing hosted provider object services for the provider systems;
• and
• adjust the first item in the intermediate reply based on the instructions, to generate an adjusted first item;
• provide the adjusted reply in response to the request, the adjusted reply defining (i) the adjusted first item, and (ii) a remainder of the set of items defined in the intermediate reply, excluding the first item.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer readable instructions executable by a processor of an intermediation server to:

• receive, via a communications interface of the intermediation server, a request containing requested item characteristics for items provided by a set of provider systems;
• generate an intermediate reply defining a set of items matching the characteristics in the request, the set of items provided by a subset of the provider systems;
• determine that a first item of the set of items is eligible for provider-specific adjustment;
• in order to generate an adjusted reply:
• communicate with a hosted offer management system to receive instructions for adjusting the first item in the intermediate reply, the hosted offer management system providing hosted provider object services for the provider systems;
• and
• adjust the first item in the intermediate reply based on the instructions, to generate an adjusted first item;
• and
• provide, via the communications interface, the adjusted reply in response to the request, the adjusted reply defining (i) the adjusted first item, and (ii) a remainder of the set of items defined in the intermediate reply, excluding the first item.
