Performance profile for network stack components

A method for use with a computing device, the method comprising:

• generating a graphical user interface that indicates a plurality of performance profiles, wherein:
• the plurality of performance profiles is respectively associated with a plurality of different network activities performed by a plurality of different applications installed on the computing device;
• an individual performance profile of the plurality of performance profiles indicates a performance variable goal state for a first network stack component of a plurality of network stack components included in a network stack;
• determining a selected performance profile by receiving a user selection of a performance profile from the plurality of performance profiles;
• controlling a first network performance parameter of the first network stack component such that a value for a performance variable of the first network stack component approaches an associated performance variable goal state indicated by the selected performance profile;
• and
• transmitting, to a second network stack component of the plurality of network stack components, instructions to control a second network performance parameter of the second network stack component such that the value for the performance variable of the first network stack component approaches the performance variable goal state.

A storage device storing instructions that, when executed by a processor, configure a computing device to:

• generate a graphical user interface that indicates a plurality of performance profiles, wherein:
• the plurality of performance profiles is respectively associated with a plurality of different network activities performed by a plurality of different applications installed on the computing device;
• an individual performance profile of the plurality of performance profiles indicates a performance variable goal state for a first network stack component of a plurality of network stack components included in a network stack;
• determine a selected performance profile by receiving a user selection of a performance profile from the plurality of performance profiles;
• control a first network performance parameter of the first network stack component such that a value for a performance variable of the first network stack component approaches an associated performance variable goal state indicated by the selected performance profile;
• and
• transmit, to a second network stack component of the plurality of network stack components, instructions to control a second network performance parameter of the second network stack component such that the value for the performance variable of the first network stack component approaches the performance variable goal state.
