Modular power supply architecture optimized for flat efficiency across loadings

A system comprising:

• one or more output modules configured to provide output power for a power supply;
• an auxiliary power supply configured to provide operational power to the one or more output modules;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• obtain a measure of the output power;
• determine whether a maximum power rating of the auxiliary power supply is sufficient to provide the measure of the output power;
• and
• responsive to a determination that the maximum power rating of the auxiliary power supply is sufficient to provide the measure of the output power, direct the auxiliary power supply to provide the output power.

One or more non-transitory computer readable storage media encoded with software comprising computer executable instructions that, when the software is executed on a power supply, is operable to cause a processor of the power supply to:

• obtain a measure of output power for the power supply, the power supply comprising one or more output modules and an auxiliary power supply configured to provide operational power to components of the one or more output modules;
• determine whether a maximum power rating of the auxiliary power supply is sufficient to provide the measure of output power;
• and
• responsive to a determination that the maximum power rating of the auxiliary power supply is sufficient to provide the measure of the output power, direct the auxiliary power supply to provide the output power.
