Abstract
A method of operating a storage system having solid-state storage memory with segment level heterogeneity is provided. The method includes mapping data into data segments, and mapping the data segments into data stripes. The method includes writing a first data stripe from a first data segment across a first plurality of blades of the storage system comprising heterogeneous total amounts of the solid-state storage memory per blade, and writing a second data stripe from the first data segment across a second plurality of blades of the storage system.
Claims18
A method, comprising:
- writing a first data stripe from a first data segment across a first plurality of blades of a storage system comprising heterogeneous total amounts of solid-state storage memory capacity per blade;
- writing a second data stripe from the first data segment across a second plurality of blades of the storage system;
- and
- mapping the first and second data stripes to physical pages in erase blocks having heterogeneous erase block sizes, wherein the heterogeneous erase block sizes provides differing erase block sizes.
A tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable media having instructions thereupon which, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform a method comprising:
- writing the data stripes across a plurality of blades of a storage system each having solid-state storage memory;
- writing a first data stripe from a first data segment across a first plurality of blades of a storage system having heterogeneous total amounts of solid-state storage memory capacity per blade;
- writing a second data stripe from the first data segment across a second plurality of blades of the storage system;
- and
- mapping the first and second data stripes to physical pages in erase blocks having heterogeneous erase block sizes, wherein the heterogeneous erase block sizes provides differing erase block sizes.
A storage system, comprising:
- a plurality of blades, each having one or more processors and solid-state storage memory having erase blocks;
- and
- the plurality of blades configurable to map data segments into data stripes, and write the data stripes across the plurality of blades, including writing a first data stripe from a first data segment across a first plurality of blades comprising blades of heterogeneous total amounts of the solid-state storage memory capacity per blade, and writing a second data stripe from the first data segment across a second plurality of blades, wherein the plurality of blades are configurable to map the first and second data stripes to physical pages in erase blocks having heterogeneous erase block sizes, wherein the heterogeneous erase block sizes provides differing erase block sizes.
