Methods and apparatus for managing uplink resource grants in wireless networks

A wireless communications system comprising:

• a first customer premise equipment (CPE) device, said first CPE device including:
• a memory;
• and
• a first processor, said first processor controlling the first CPE device to perform the following operations:
• receiving a first resource grant at the first CPE device from a wireless base station, said first resource grant giving the first CPE device the right to use a first set of resource blocks on a recurring basis;
• utilizing, by the first CPE device, a first amount of resource blocks in the first set of resource blocks during a first time period, said first resource grant being different than a second resource grant giving a second CPE device the right to use a second set of resource blocks on a recurring basis;
• receiving a third resource grant at the first CPE device from the wireless base station, said third resource grant granting the first CPE device the right to use resources which are also granted to another CPE device;
• and
• wherein said third resource grant is determined by the wireless base station based on the first amount of resource blocks in the first set of resource blocks utilized by the first CPE device during the first time period and an amount of resource blocks utilized by said another CPE device during the first time period.

A non-transitory computer readable medium including a first set of computer executable instructions which when executed by a processor of a first customer premise equipment (CPE) device cause the first CPE device to perform the steps of:

• receiving a first resource grant at the first CPE device from a wireless base station, said first resource grant giving the first CPE device the right to use a first set of resource blocks on a recurring basis;
• utilizing, by the first CPE device, a first amount of resource blocks in the first set of resource blocks during a first time period, said first resource grant being different than a second resource grant giving a second CPE device the right to use a second set of resource blocks on a recurring basis;
• receiving a third resource grant at the first CPE device from the wireless base station, said third resource grant granting the first CPE device the right to use resources which are also granted to another CPE device;
• and
• wherein said third resource grant is determined by the wireless base station based on the first amount of resource blocks in the first set of resource blocks utilized by the first CPE device during the first time period and an amount of resource blocks utilized by said another CPE device during the first time period.
