Dynamic routing of file system objects

One or more computer-storage media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed by a computing system having a processor and memory, cause the processor to:

• receive a file system object tagged with one or more tags;
• access dynamic rules that control routing of file system objects to one or more cloud-based locations based on the one or more tags;
• search the dynamic rules for an applicable rule for routing the file system object;
• find multiple dynamics rules applicable to the one or more tags;
• prioritize the multiple dynamic rules according to a rule precedent to determine the applicable rule, wherein the rule precedent avoids conflicts with the multiple dynamic rules that are applicable to the one or more tags of the file system objects based on indicating an action to perform for an identified conflict between the multiple dynamic rules;
• select the applicable rule from the prioritized multiple dynamic rules;
• and
• route the file system object based on the applicable rule.

A computer-implemented method, the method comprising:

• receiving a file system object tagged with one or more tags;
• accessing dynamic rules that control routing of file system objects to one or more cloud-based locations based on the one or more tags;
• searching the dynamic rules for an applicable rule for routing the file system object;
• finding multiple dynamics rules applicable to the one or more tags;
• prioritizing the multiple dynamic rules according to a rule precedent to determine the applicable rule, wherein the rule precedent avoids conflicts with the multiple dynamic rules that are applicable to the one or more tags of the file system objects based on indicating an action to perform for an identified conflict between the multiple dynamic rules;
• selecting the applicable rule from the prioritized multiple dynamic rules;
• and
• routing the file system object based on the applicable rule.
