Abstract
Embodiments described herein involve an auxiliary zone contributing audio to a primary zone. In an example implementation, a network media system determines that a first zone in the network media system is playing back a first type of audio content and that a second zone in the network media system is not playing back audio content. While the first zone is playing back the first type of audio content and the second zone is not playing back audio content, the network media system forms a temporarily playback configuration. In the temporary playback configuration, the first zone plays back primary audio content including full frequency range audio content and the second playback device of the second zone plays back auxiliary audio content including low frequency range audio content.
Claims20
A system comprising:
- a first playback device comprising a first microphone and at least one first audio transducer;
- a second playback device comprising a second microphone and at least one second audio transducer;
- at least one processor;
- and
- data storage including instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the system is configured to:
- capture, via the second microphone of the second playback device, first microphone data representing first audio played back via the at least one first audio transducer of the first playback device;
- based on the first microphone data, determine a first response that is representative of first acoustic characteristics of a first listening area that includes the first playback device;
- determine a first calibration based on the first response;
- apply the first calibration to the first playback device;
- capture, via the first microphone of the first playback device, second microphone data representing second audio played back via the at least one second audio transducer of the second playback device;
- based on the second microphone data, determine a second response that is representative of second acoustic characteristics of a second listening area that includes the second playback device;
- determine a second calibration based on the second response;
- and
- apply the second calibration to the second playback device.
A first playback device comprising:
- at least one first audio transducer;
- a first microphone;
- a network interface;
- at least one processor;
- and
- data storage including instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the first playback device is configured to:
- capture, via the first microphone, first microphone data representing first audio played back via at least one second audio transducer of a second playback device;
- based on the first microphone data, determine a first response that is representative of first acoustic characteristics of a first listening area that includes the second playback device;
- determine a first calibration based on the first response, wherein the instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the first playback device is configured to determine the first calibration based on the first response comprise instructions that are executable by the at least one processor such that the first playback device is configured to:
- determine an equalization that at least partially offsets the first acoustic characteristics of the first listening area;
- and
- cause the second playback device to apply the first calibration.
A method comprising:
- capturing, via a microphone of a first playback device, first microphone data representing first audio played back via at least one audio transducer of a second playback device;
- based on the first microphone data, determining a first response that is representative of first acoustic characteristics of a first listening area that includes the second playback device;
- determining a first calibration based on the first response;
- applying the first calibration to the second playback device;
- capturing, via a microphone of the second playback device, second microphone data representing second audio played back via at least one audio transducer of the first playback device;
- based on the second microphone data, determining a second response that is representative of second acoustic characteristics of a second listening area that includes the first playback device;
- determining a second calibration based on the second response;
- and
- applying the second calibration to the first playback device.
