Abstract
A plano-concave optical layer is fabricated based on an optical-mechanical fit profile. A concave-side of the plano-concave optical layer and a base curvature provide an optical power that matches the optical power from prescription lenses of eyeglasses.
Claims17
A method comprising:
- receiving an optical-mechanical fit profile, wherein the optical-mechanical fit profile includes a mapping of prescription lenses with respect to a face of a wearer of the prescription lenses, and wherein the optical-mechanical fit profile includes a distortion profile and an optical power of the prescription lenses;
- and
- fabricating a plano-concave optical layer for a head mounted device based on the optical-mechanical fit profile, wherein the plano-concave optical layer is for coupling with an optical element of the head mounted device, the optical element having a base curve different from the prescription lenses, wherein a curvature of a concave-side of the plano-concave optical layer and the base curve combine to provide a matched optical power and a matched distortion profile that is substantially similar to the distortion profile of the prescription lenses to reduce an adaptation time of switching between the prescription lenses and the head mounted device, the matched optical power being substantially similar to the optical power of the prescription lenses.
A system comprising:
- processing logic configured to receive an optical-mechanical fit profile, wherein the optical-mechanical fit profile includes an optical power of prescription lenses;
- a platform for holding an optical element including a base curve;
- and
- a lens shaping apparatus configured to generate a plano-concave optical layer onto the optical element based on the optical-mechanical fit profile, wherein a concave-side of the plano-concave optical layer and the base curve of the optical element combine to provide a fabricated optical power that matches the optical power of the prescription lenses,
- wherein the optical-mechanical fit profile includes a distortion profile of the prescription lenses, and wherein the lens shaping apparatus is configured to 3D print the plano-concave optical layer so that the optical element combined with the plano-concave optical layer has a matched distortion profile that is substantially similar to the distortion profile of the prescription lenses to reduce an adaptation time of switching between the prescription lenses and glasses that include the optical element.
