Medication dispensing device and methods

A method of dispensing medication, comprising:

• alerting a patient to take a prescribed number of units of a medication;
• providing a first mass of the medication in a tray of a medication dispensing device;
• providing the tray in a medication accessible position, wherein the tray comprises a structural support portion, a container holder, and a load cell, wherein the load cell is provided between the structural support portion and the container holder;
• moving the tray from the medication accessible position to a medication inaccessible position;
• determining a second mass of the medication in the tray in the medication inaccessible position;
• determining a removed mass of the medication from the tray;
• and
• determining if the removed mass of the medication from the tray is equal to the prescribed number of units of the medication.
