Abstract
An electrical submersible pump (ESP) including a motorized pump having a motor and a pump and that may be employed in a wellbore. The pump rotor has vanes and the pump stator has vanes. The pump rotor is integrated with the motor rotor, wherein the pump rotor and the motor rotor rotate together.
Claims20
A method of operating an electrical submersible pump (ESP) comprising a motorized pump, the method comprising:
- lowering the motorized pump into a wellbore;
- pumping, by the motorized pump, fluid from the wellbore;
- and
- discharging the fluid from a longitudinal end portion of the motorized pump, wherein the motorized pump comprises:
- a motor comprising:
- a motor rotor comprising permanent magnets;
- and
- a motor stator comprising laminations, wherein the motor stator is a single motor stator that extends axially continuously through multiple stages of the motorized pump;
- a pump comprising:
- a pump rotor comprising pump rotor vanes, wherein the pump rotor and the motor rotor rotate together;
- and
- a pump stator directly attached to the motor stator, wherein pump stator vanes are disposed on an external surface of the pump stator and extend in a radial direction, wherein pumping the fluid comprises the pump rotor vanes engaging the pump stator vanes, wherein the pump stator vanes do not radially overlap with the pump rotor vanes, wherein a radial gap between the pump stator vanes and the pump rotor vanes extends axially continuously through a stage of the pump, and wherein the pump is a screw pump;
- and
- a housing, wherein the motor and the pump are disposed radially within the housing.

An electrical submersible pump (ESP) comprising:
- a motorized pump sized to fit into a wellbore and to pump fluid from the wellbore, the motorized pump configured to discharge the fluid from a longitudinal end portion of the motorized pump, the motorized pump comprising:
- a motor comprising:
- a motor rotor comprising permanent magnets;
- and
- a motor stator comprising laminations, wherein the motor stator is a single motor stator that extends axially continuously through multiple stages of the motorized pump;
- a pump comprising:
- a pump rotor comprising pump rotor vanes, wherein the pump rotor and the motor rotor are configured to rotate together;
- and
- a pump stator directly attached to the motor stator, wherein pump stator vanes are disposed on an external surface of the pump stator and extend in a radial direction, the pump rotor vanes configured to interact with the pump stator vanes to move the fluid, wherein the pump stator vanes do not radially overlap with the pump rotor vanes, wherein a radial gap between the pump stator vanes and the pump rotor vanes extends axially continuously through a stage of the pump, and wherein the pump is a screw pump;
- and
- a housing, wherein the motor and the pump are disposed radially within the housing.
