Abstract
A hydrogen production system comprising: a fuel source; a water source; and a hydrogen producer; where the fuel source and the water source are in fluid communication with the hydrogen producer; and where fuel enters the hydrogen producer from the fuel source and water enters the hydrogen producer from the water source and the fuel and the water do not come in contact with each other in the hydrogen producer.
Claims17
A hydrogen production system comprising:
- a fuel source;
- a water source;
- and
- a hydrogen producer;
- wherein the hydrogen producer comprises a first electrode, a second electrode, and a mixed-conducting electrolyte consisting essentially of doped ceria between the first and second electrodes;
- wherein the electrodes are separated by the electrolyte only;
- wherein the first and second electrodes both comprise metallic-phase nickel and are simultaneously exposed to reducing environments during the entire time of operation;
- wherein the hydrogen producer comprises no interconnect and does not generate electricity or receive electricity;
- wherein the fuel source and the water source are in fluid communication with the hydrogen producer;
- and
- wherein fuel enters the hydrogen producer from the fuel source and water enters the hydrogen producer from the water source and the fuel and the water do not come in contact with each other in the hydrogen producer.
