Abstract
The present invention relates to the formation of gels. In particular, the present invention is directed to a method of forming a cross-linked polymer hydrogel using competitive ligand exchange.
Claims21
A cross-linked polymeric gel comprising an ionotropic polymer or a mixture of different ionotropic polymers;
- a crosslinking agent;
- a displacing agent;
- a first chelating agent and a second chelating agent;
- and water;
- wherein the ionotropic polymer or the mixture of different ionotropic polymers have been crosslinked by the crosslinking agent to form a cross-linked polymeric gel;
- and wherein the crosslinking agent and the displacing agent are different multivalent metal ions.
