Abstract
Polymers are formed by the condensation of bis(hydroxycarbyl)-aminophenolic compounds with aldehydes. The condensation polymers include one or more repeat units having bis(hydroxycarbyl)amino functionality. The polymers are useful as antifoulants, antipolymerants, rheology modifiers, dehazers, polymerization retardants, surfactants, or a combination of these in one or more industrial process streams.

A polymer comprising a repeat unit having the structure of Formula I, Formula II, or a combination thereof,
- wherein R1 and R2 are —(CR6R7)n(CHOH)(CH2)p(O)qR8;
- R3 is H, alkyl, aryl, benzyl, or aralkyl;
- R4 and R5 are independently H, or C1-C22 alkyl, —OH, or NR1R2;
- R6 and R7 are independently H or alkyl;
- R8 is C1-C24 linear, branched, or cyclic alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl;
- R9 is H, alkyl, aryl, benzyl, or aralkyl, optionally substituted with an alkyl group, alkoxy group, or hydroxyl group;
- n is an integer between 1 and 12;
- p is 0 or an integer between 1 and 12;
- and q is 0 or 1.
