Abstract
Implants, instruments, and methods for performing surgical procedures on the spine, including one or more of creating an operative corridor to the spine, delivering implants to the spine, fusing one or more segments of the spine and fixing one or more segments of the spine.
Claims18
A method comprising:
- advancing a secondary retractor blade into an operative corridor defined in part by a first retractor blade having a proximal end coupled to a retractor body and a distal end coupled to a first bone anchor anchored into a first vertebra;
- coupling the secondary retractor blade to a translating arm of a secondary retractor body for independent operation of the secondary retractor blade within the operative corridor;
- coupling the secondary retractor body to the retractor body;
- through the operative corridor, implanting an interbody implant in a disc space between the first vertebra and a second vertebra;
- uncoupling the distal end of the first retractor blade from the first bone anchor;
- and
- after uncoupling the first retractor blade:
- inserting a rod into a first receiver of the first bone anchor;
- and
- locking the rod to the first receiver.

A method comprising:
- defining an operative corridor with:
- a first retractor blade coupled to:
- a retractor body;
- and
- a bone anchor anchored into a first vertebra;
- and
- a secondary retractor blade coupled to a secondary retractor body for independent operation of the secondary retractor blade within the operative corridor;
- coupling the secondary retractor body to the retractor body;
- through the operative corridor, implanting an interbody implant in a disc space between the first vertebra and a second vertebra;
- uncoupling the first retractor blade from the first bone anchor;
- and
- after uncoupling the first retractor blade, inserting a spinal rod into a first receiver of the first bone anchor.

A method comprising:
- defining an operative corridor with:
- a first retractor blade coupled to:
- a retractor body;
- and
- a first bone anchor anchored to a first vertebra;
- a second retractor blade coupled to:
- the retractor body;
- and
- a second bone anchor anchored to a second vertebra;
- a medial retractor blade coupled to the retractor body;
- and
- a secondary retractor blade coupled to a secondary retractor body for independent operation of the secondary retractor blade within the operative corridor;
- coupling the secondary retractor body to the retractor body;
- through the operative corridor, implanting an interbody implant in a disc space between the first vertebra and the second vertebra;
- uncoupling the first retractor blade from the first bone anchor and the second retractor blade from the second bone anchor;
- and
- inserting a spinal rod into a first receiver of the first bone anchor and a second receiver of the second bone anchor.
