Remote comprehensive eye examination system

A method performed by one or more computing devices, the method comprising:

• obtaining, over a network and from a diagnostic center, data indicating an eye examination of a patient located at the diagnostic center, wherein the diagnostic center includes:
• a diagnostic center including:
• ophthalmic equipment configured for use in an eye examination of a patient located at the diagnostic center, and
• an equipment controller configured to receive instructions for controlling operation of the ophthalmic equipment from multiple remote locations during the eye examination;
• and
• a server system configured to exchange data communications through a number of connections and perform operations comprising:
• assigning a first connection through which communications are facilitated with a computing device of a remote technician;
• assigning a second connection through which communications are facilitated with a computing device of a remote eyecare doctor;
• transmitting, over a network and to the computing device of the remote technician based on the first connection, data indicating permission being granted to the remote technician to administer the eye examination from a first remote location by controlling the equipment controller to operate the ophthalmic equipment during a first portion of the eye examination;
• generating, based on input data received from the computing device of the remote technician, examination data representing results of one or more tests administered by the remote technician during the first portion of the eye examination, wherein the examination data comprises (i) medical history information of the patient, and (ii) result data of a pre-refraction test performed on the patient at the diagnostic center by a local technician located at the diagnostic center;
• based on generation of the examination data:
• transmitting, over the network and to the computing device of the remote eyecare doctor, data indicating permission being granted to the remote eyecare doctor to:
• evaluate the examination data transmitted to a second remote location that is remote from the first remote location, and
• further administer the eye examination from the second remote location by controlling the equipment controller based on input from the remote eyecare doctor to operate the ophthalmic equipment during a second portion of the eye examination;
• receiving, over the network and from the computing device of the remote eyecare doctor, evaluation data representing an evaluation, by the remote eyecare doctor, of the examination data representing results of the one or more tests administered by the remote technician during the first portion of the eye examination;
• and
• providing, over the network, the evaluation data for output.
