Abstract
Fabrics made for apparel, tents, sleeping bags and the like, in various composites, constructed such that there is at least one metal layer, forming a radiant barrier to reduce heat loss via radiation from the human body, and insulating this metal layer from heat loss via conduction, and a process for its manufacture.
Claims20
A substrate construction, the construction comprising:
- a first textile layer;
- the first textile layer comprising a metal coating applied to an underside of the first textile layer;
- the metal coating with a coating thickness of 10 nm to 200 nm;
- said metal coating being in contact with a knitted spacer layer, the knitted spacer layer having a first face and a second face defining a knitted structure;
- wherein the knitted spacer layer comprises a plurality of fibres extending between the first face and second face of the knitted structure, in which there are gaps between the fibres to allow for reflected infrared radiation to pass through the gaps from the knitted spacer first face to the second face.

A substrate construction, the construction comprising:
- a first substrate having a metal layer applied thereto;
- an insulating layer disposed adjacent to the first metal layer of the first substrate;
- the insulating layer comprising a knitted structure defining a first plane and a second plane;
- and
- wherein the insulating layer further comprises a plurality of fibres extending from the first plane of the knitted structure to the second plane of the knitted structure, in which there are gaps between the fibres to allow for reflected infrared radiation to pass through the gaps from the knitted spacer first plane to the second plane, and in which the insulating layer is in contact with the metal layer.
