Asset identification and tracking system

A method comprising:

• generating image data depicting multiple mobile assets that move through at least one designated area;
• analyzing the image data to detect and decipher one or more identifiers that are displayed on the mobile assets that move through the at least one designated area;
• determining that one of the mobile assets that moves through the at least one designated area and is depicted in the image data is an unidentified mobile asset based on an inability to detect or decipher the one or more identifiers displayed on the unidentified mobile asset;
• and
• generating a detection message for communication to an asset control system, the detection message including a set of the identifiers that are detected and deciphered from the analysis of the image data and one or more particular mobile assets of the mobile assets associated with the identifiers in the set, the detection message indicating a location of the unidentified mobile asset relative to the one or more particular mobile assets associated with the identifiers in the set.

A system comprising:

• a monitoring unit configured to monitor a designated area, the monitoring unit including an imaging device and one or more processors operably coupled to the imaging device, the imaging device configured to generate image data depicting mobile assets that move through the designated area, the one or more processors configured to analyze the image data to detect identifiers that are displayed on the mobile assets that move through the designated area, wherein the one or more processors are further configured to decipher the identifiers and generate a detection message for communication to an asset control system,
• wherein the detection message provides the identifiers in an ordered list that corresponds to an order in which the mobile assets are depicted in the image data generated by the imaging device, the detection message including a time at which the image data is generated and one or more of an identification of the monitoring unit, a location of the monitoring unit, or an identification of the designated area monitored by the monitoring unit, and
• responsive to determining that one of the mobile assets depicted in the image data is an unidentified mobile asset due to an inability to detect or decipher a respective identifier displayed on the unidentified mobile asset, the one or more processors are configured to generate the detection message to indicate a location of the unidentified mobile asset relative to other mobile assets in the ordered list.
