Abstract
The present invention relates to a novel synthetic pathway for alpha-tocopherol. The invention discloses different reactions yielding some new intermediates in a very high yield and stereoselectivity.

A process of manufacturing stereoselectively a compound of formula (IV):
- wherein the process comprises subjecting a compound of formula (I):
- to a two-step chemical reaction comprising the substeps of:
- (1) subjecting the compound of formula (I) to an oxidative demethylation reaction to form a compound of formula (III):
- and then subsequently
- (2) reacting the compound of formula (III) with a dithionite compound or a salt thereof to form the compound of formula (IV),
- wherein * represent chiral centers.
