Abstract
A multi-channel system for classifying particles in a mixture of particles according to one or more characteristics including a common source of electromagnetic radiation for producing a beam of electromagnetic radiation and a beam splitter for producing multiple beams of electromagnetic radiation for directing multiple beams of electromagnetic radiation to each interrogation location associated with each flow channel of the multi-channel system.
Claims12
A multi-channel system for classifying sperm cells according to one or more characteristics of the sperm cells, said system comprising:
- a plurality of flow cytometry units each of which is operable to provide sex sorted sperm from a mixture of sperm cells by interrogating a stream of fluid containing said sperm cells using a beam of electromagnetic radiation and detecting a response with at least one sensor operable to generate a output signal indicative of at least one characteristic of the sperm cells;
- said units sharing an integrated platform comprising a common processor for detecting digital waveform pulses representing fluorescence emission produced by sperm in response to interrogation by the beam of electromagnetic radiation from each output signal generated from each at least one sensor, extracting features in the detected digital waveform pulses in the form of values representing characteristics of the digital waveform pulses, discriminating the detected digital waveform pulses as a function of their extracted features to determine one or more characteristics of the sperm cells, and classifying sperm cells according to the one or more characteristics
- wherein said integrated platform further comprises a common input for controlling operation of the flow cytometry units by the common processor.
