Abstract
System and method for supporting scalable representation of switch port status in a high performance computing environment. In accordance with an embodiment, a scalable representation of switch port status can be provided. By adding a scalable representation of switch port status at each switch (both physical and virtual)—instead of getting all switch port changes individually, the scalable representation of switch port status can combine a number of ports that can scale by just using a few bits of information for each port's status.
Claims11
A system for supporting scalable representation of switch port status in a high performance computing environment, comprising:
- one or more microprocessors;
- a switched network, the switched network comprising at least one switch and a management entity;
- wherein the management entity sends a management packet to the at least one switch, the management packet requesting status information for at least two ports of a plurality of ports at the at least one switch;
- wherein the status for the at least two ports of the plurality of ports of the at least one switch are represented in a fixed-size status attribute of the at least one switch
- wherein the management entity determines the status for the at least two ports via the management packet, the management packet querying the status attribute of the at least one switch;
- wherein the status for the at least two ports comprises extended link status for the at least two ports of the plurality of ports of the at least one switch.
A method for supporting scalable representation of switch port status in a high performance computing environment, comprising:
- providing, at one or more computers, each computer comprising one or more microprocessors,
- a switched network, the switched network comprising at least one switch and a management entity;
- and
- sending, by the management entity, a management packet to the at least one switch, the management packet requesting status information for at least two ports of a plurality of ports at the at least one switch;
- wherein the status for the at least two ports of the plurality of ports of the at least one switch are represented in a fixed-size status attribute of the at least one switch;
- and
- determining, by the management entity, the status for the at least two ports via the management packet, the management packet querying the status attribute of the at least one switch;
- wherein the status for the at least two ports comprises extended link status for the at least two ports of the plurality of ports of the at least one switch.
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium, including instructions stored thereon for supporting scalable representation of switch port status in a high performance computing environment, which when read and executed by one or more computers cause the one or more computers to perform steps comprising:
- providing, at one or more computers, each computer comprising one or more microprocessors,
- a switched network, the switched network comprising at least one switch and a management entity;
- and
- sending, by the management entity, a management packet to the at least one switch, the management packet requesting status information for at least two ports of a plurality of ports at the at least one switch;
- wherein the status for the at least two ports of the plurality of ports of the at least one switch are represented in a fixed-size status attribute of the at least one switch;
- and
- determining, by the management entity, the status for the at least two ports via the management packet, the management packet querying the status attribute of the at least one switch;
- wherein the status for the at least two ports comprises extended link status for the at least two ports of the plurality of ports of the at least one switch.
