Abstract
Methods and systems are described for storing content. The content may be divided into user-specific portions and common portions. One or more selection rules may be used to divide the content into the user-specific portion and the common portions. The one or more selection rules may be selected such that the common portion is not decodable without the user-specific portions. The user-specific portions or data indicating a location of the user-specific portion may be stored in user-specific storage. The user-specific storage may be used to determine content for playback to a user.
Claims30
A method comprising:
- receiving a first request to store a content item, and a second request to store the content item, wherein the first request is associated with a first user account of a plurality user accounts, and wherein the second request is associated with a second user account of the plurality of user accounts;
- determining a header portion and a media portion of a segment of the content item and causing storage of the header portion;
- determining, based on one or more selection rules and from the media portion of the content item, a first portion of the content item associated with the first user account and the second user account;
- causing storage, of the first portion of the content item in a first user-specific storage area associated with the first user account, and of the first portion of the content item in a second user-specific storage area associated with the second user account;
- and
- determining, from the media portion, a second portion of the content item, wherein the second portion of content item is stored in common storage associated with the plurality of user accounts, and wherein the second portion of the content item is associated with the plurality of user accounts.

- receiving a plurality of requests to store content, wherein the plurality of requests are associated with a plurality of user accounts;
- determining a header portion and a media portion of a segment of the content and causing storage of the header portion;
- storing, based on one or more selection rules and from the media portion of the content, data indicative of a first portion of content in user-specific storage associated with a first user account of the plurality of user accounts;
- storing, based on the one or more selection rules and from the media portion of the content, data indicative of a second portion of the content in user-specific storage associated with a second user account of the plurality of user accounts;
- storing, from the media portion of the content, a common portion of the content, wherein the common portion is stored in common storage associated with the first user account and the second user account;
- determining, based on the first portion and at least a portion of the common portion, the content;
- and
- causing output of the determined content.

- one or more processors;

- memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the device to:
- receive a first request to store a content item, and a second request to store the content item, wherein the first request is associated with a first user account of a plurality user accounts, and wherein the second request is associated with a second user account of the plurality of user accounts;
- determine a header portion and a media portion of a segment of the content item and cause storage of the header portion;
- determine, based on one or more selection rules and from the media portion of the content item, a first portion of the content item associated with the first user account and the second user account;
- cause storage, of the first portion of the content item in a first user-specific storage area associated with the first user account, and of the first portion of the content item in a second user-specific storage area associated with the second user account;
- and
- determine, from the media portion, a second portion of the content item, wherein the second portion of content item is stored in common storage associated with the plurality of user accounts, and wherein the second portion of the content item is associated with the plurality of user accounts.
