Abstract
Systems, apparatuses, and method are described for resolving domain names based on localization. A computing device may send, to a name server, a request indicating a domain. The name server may determine one or more servers associated with the domain based on the locations of the one or more servers and/or the computing device. The name server may send, to the computing device, a message indicating the determined one or more servers.
Claims26
A method comprising:
- receiving, from a computing device and by a name server at a first level of a hierarchy of a Domain Name System (DNS), a request indicating a subdomain of a domain;
- determining, by the name server and based on data received from the computing device, a geographical region associated with the computing device;
- determining, by the name server, one or more second name servers based on:
- the geographical region associated with the computing device;
- geographical regions associated with other name servers at a second level of the hierarchy of the DNS;
- a first hash value associated with the computing device;
- and
- one or more second hash values associated with the other name servers, wherein the one or more second name servers are a subset of the other name servers;
- and
- sending, to the computing device, a message causing the computing device to send the request to a second name server of the one or more second name servers.

A method comprising:
- receiving, from a computing device and by a name server of a Domain Name System (DNS), a request indicating a subdomain of a domain;
- determining, by the name server, a plurality of second name servers, of the DNS, that are configured to respond to DNS queries of the subdomain;
- receiving, from the computing device, location information associated with the computing device;
- based on determining that the location information associated with the computing device is obtained by the name server within a time threshold that is based on location information associated with the plurality of second name servers, determining, by the name server, a subset of the plurality of second name servers;
- and
- sending, by the name server and to the computing device, a message causing the computing device to send the request to at least one second name server of the subset.

A method comprising:
- receiving, from a computing device and by a name server at a first level of a hierarchy of a Domain Name System (DNS), a request indicating a subdomain of a domain;
- determining, by the name server, a plurality of second name servers at a second level of the hierarchy of the DNS;
- based on a distance between two of the plurality of second name servers, determining, by the name server and based on data received from the computing device, a geographical region associated with the computing device;
- selecting, by the name server and based on the geographical region associated with the computing device, a subset of the plurality of second name servers;
- and
- sending, by the name server and to the computing device, a message causing the computing device to send the request to at least one second name server of the subset of the plurality of second name servers.
