Apparatus and method for mobility management

A method for wireless communication, comprising:

• transmitting, from a mobile device, a first message to a wireless communication node requesting a reestablishment of a network connection;
• receiving, at the mobile device, a second message from the wireless communication node, the second message including information for reestablishing the network connection and information for reconfiguring the network connection, wherein the information for reconfiguring the network connection is carried in a protocol data unit packet produced by a Packet Data Convergence Protocol entity;
• and
• in response to failing to complete a reconfiguration of the network connection by the mobile device, transmitting, from the mobile device, a third message to the wireless communication node indicating completing a reestablishment of the network connection,
• wherein the first message, the second message, and the third message are transmitted as part of a contention-based protocol in an unlicensed spectrum.

An apparatus for wireless communication comprising a processor that is configured to:

• receive a first message from a mobile device requesting a reestablishment of a network connection;
• transmit a second message to the mobile device, the second message including information for reestablishing the network connection and information for reconfiguring the network connection, wherein the information for reconfiguring the network connection is carried in a protocol data unit packet produced by a Packet Data Convergence Protocol entity;
• and
• receive a third message from the mobile device indicating completing a reestablishment of the network connection, wherein the third message is received in response to a failure to complete a reconfiguration of the network connection by the mobile device, and
• wherein the first message, the second message, and the third message are transmitted as part of a contention-based protocol in an unlicensed spectrum.

An apparatus for wireless communication comprising a processor that is configured to:

• transmit a first message to a wireless communication node requesting a reestablishment of a network connection;
• receive a second message from the wireless communication node, the second message including information for reestablishing the network connection and information for reconfiguring the network connection, wherein the information for reconfiguring the network connection is carried in a protocol data unit packet produced by a Packet Data Convergence Protocol entity;
• and
• in response to failing to complete a reconfiguration of the network connection bar the apparatus, transmit a third message to the wireless communication node indicating completing a reestablishment of the network connection,
• wherein the first message, the second message, and the third message are transmitted as part of a contention-based protocol in an unlicensed spectrum.
